Workshop at SMK Sungai Ara

We got up really early in the morning to go to Sungai Ara. It was a beautiful Tuesday morning.
Miss Chan kindly received us, and showed us the magnificient big hall where the workshop would take place.
After some last minute checking of all the equipment, the students started to flow in, filling all the chairs with curious faces. Everybody was very eager to find out what was going to happen.

Yasuhiro gave a thorough explanation on the statistics related to HIV/AIDS

And Jan Willem spoke about the dangers of unprotected sex. This information is very important, even for very young students, since it can save their lives in the future.

Goro showed how fast HIV can spread in a country by conducting the Wildfire game. Shaking hands time!

There were a lot of fun moments, as you can see on their faces.
This girl was so clever, she asked interested questions and had no fear to speak in public.
The Bridges of Hope game showed that with support of family, friends and professionals, you will never have to fall for the wrong temptations and dangers during your life.
Condoms: the most reliable way to protect yourself against, unwanted pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other STD's. Even if you do not like condoms, please remember, they do not promote free or premarital sex, it is just a precaution. Better safe than sorry!
Thank you all for your hospitality and generosity. Hopefully we had a positive impact on your lives. BYE!

Workshop at SMJK Phor Tay

Hi guys, we had a really GREAT workshop at Phor Tay Chinese High School. The students were really interested and eager to learn more about HIV/AIDS, and means to protect themselves. We want to thank the school, the students and especially miss Wong for all their support and attention.

Here are some pictures showing the bright boys and girls attending the workshop and the exhibition. And remember: Live a positive live, know your HIV status!

All the students were paying a lot of attention, and they already knew a lot about HIV/AIDS. They answered 4 out of 6 of the pre-quiz questions correctly!

Time for a game: Wildfire!

The game showed the students how fast HIV/AIDS can spread, like a wildfire.

Bridges of Hope: with support you will reach your goals

The students were very interested

The most important part was a condom demonstration, to show students how to protect themselves
And there was also room for questions and discussion

Miss Wong thanked us all for our effort

And then: Exhibition time. Especially form 2 and 3 were very eager to learn more about HIV/AIDS. They were asking a lot of questions.

Sometimes, it was a bit scary :)

THANK YOU ALL, SEE YOU NEXT TIME. AND BE SAFE!

If you have any questions relating to HIV/AIDS or the project, please contact us.

New HIV/AIDS Awareness trainers!

Let me proudly introduce our new trainers from Japan and The Netherlands, they cannot wait to conduct a workshop at your school:

Hello, My name is Tatsuya Goromaru. If you want to, you can call me Goro. I am a student at Waseda University, Japan.
Currently I am doing a major in law and I am passionate for studying international law. In the future, I hope to work for a trading company because I want to serve to bridge the gap among several countries, especially in developing countries.

I think Asian students should challenge eachother in order to solve the global problems. Thank you very much!

Hi there, My name is Jan Willem de Vries, but you can call me Jan. I've just graduated from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, with a Masters in Foreign Relations.
I came to Malaysia to help AIESEC raise awareness about the serious disease HIV/AIDS. I hope to make an impact on the lives of many students. Another reason for me to come here was to learn a lot about the Malaysian culture. Penang is really great starting point for doing this.
During my first weeks, I was overwhelmed by all the different smells, tastes, people and cultures of Penang. Malaysia truly is a very diverse and beautiful country.

Hi,my name is Yasuhiro. I'm from Nagoya, a city in Central Japan.
I want to study Malaysian people and cultures and to make an impact on the lives of students, so I came here to hold HIV workshops as a volunteer.
I like Japanese manga and animation, so if you are interested in Japanese culture, don't hesitate to ask me about Japan.
I am looking forward to doing many workshops.
Thank you very much!!!

SMJK Jit Sin

4th of August was a day full of activities! We conducted four workshops and an exhibition for about 1300 students!

It's a really big audience - everything must be prepared precisely.

Some basic information: Do you know that you can't get HIV from casual contacts like hugging and kissing?

Let's start shaking hands to see that HIV can spread like a wildfire!

Remember that HIV is not the same as AIDS!

Oh, it's not easy to cross the dangerous river with only one small bridge..

It's better to ask for help!

Can you protect yourself from HIV? Of course - you have to choose at least one of possible ways: Abstinence, Be faithfull or use Condoms.

You have some more questions? Try to find an answer on an exhibition. You can also ask professional organisations.

Thank you SMJK Jit Sin!!
